Hiking & Exploring Historic and Forgotten Places...

This page is under construction... while waiting for the warm spring weather to return... (hopefully soon)

April 3, 2009 - UPDATE! Satellite aerial photo confirmation! - see below...

As a person who loves history, I am intrigued whenever I come across a little hint of something that once was part of a civilization, but is now forgotten and hidden. While skimming some very old writings, I accidentally stumbled across "The Great Viaduct of 1892" in Weehawken, NJ and the "World's Largest Elevators" (at that time) designed and built by the same man who designed the elevators for the Eiffel Tower in France!

Notice the tunnel at the top of the cliff. Below, I have found additional details describing the elevators and tunnels:

So these are the subjects I like to photograph as a "Now Verses Then" historical comparison. I also believe I have found the precise location of the original site using satellite and aerial photographs, allowing me to investigate closer on my next trip near the area. I think there are many would love to know about such an interesting history. When the weather warms up a bit, I'll try to get some photographs in the present time of 2009 to compare to 1892.

Until then...
